Garden landscaping, patios, decking, fencing and lawns in Little Lever — small yards behind the older streets, tighter estate plots further out, all quoted after a proper look at the space.
Tell us a little about your garden and we'll come straight back to you on WhatsApp or by email.
Little Lever is about three miles south-east of Bolton town centre, in the Bolton borough, with Kearsley and Farnworth on one side and Ainsworth and Radcliffe — over the line into Bury — on the other. Its road links are the A6 and the A666.
Housing here runs in two bands: older terraces near the middle of the town, and newer estate housing further out.
Neither gives you a large garden, so most of the work is about getting more out of a small space rather than filling a big one — which is a harder brief, not an easier one.
Behind the terraces near the centre, the outdoor space is a walled or fenced yard, usually flagged over completely, often with no soil left in it anywhere. Treated as a garden it disappoints. Treated as an outdoor room it can be the best-used space in the house.
That means deciding the three or four things it is actually for — sitting, drying, storing, maybe growing something — and then giving each of them a place instead of scattering pots across the flags.
Height does the work that floor space cannot: planting against a wall, a screen where you are overlooked, and a decent surface underfoot so the space reads as one piece rather than as leftovers.
A yard with nothing but a paved floor needs beds built and filled before anything can grow in it.
On the newer estate housing further out of the centre, access is rarely the problem and size is. A compact rear garden only holds so much, so most of the value is in choosing well rather than fitting more in.
Small gardens look bigger with fewer materials in them. Running one paving type through the whole space usually beats a patio, a path and a slab area that do not match.
Where you are overlooked from two or three sides, a screen in the right place does more than raising the whole boundary, and keeps the garden from feeling boxed in.
In a small garden, storage decides the look of the whole thing. Designing a place for it beats finding one afterwards, and it usually goes on the side path.
A little lawn in shade, walked on daily, is hard on real grass. Both options work here, and the ground preparation underneath is much the same either way.
Storage is half building work and half a product choice.

You're left with a fully transformed outdoor space.
Kearsley and Farnworth are the neighbours on the Bolton side, Ainsworth is out towards Breightmet, and Radcliffe is the next town over the boundary into Bury.
Our landscaping in Farnworth page covers the terraced streets next door, and artificial grass explains the base a small lawn needs if it is going to drain and stay flat.
Yes, but the growing space has to be built rather than found.
That means raised beds against a wall or boundary, filled with imported soil, and choosing plants that will live in a contained depth of it.
In a small yard that usually looks better than freestanding pots anyway, because the planting becomes part of the structure.
You are.
Little Lever is named on our areas list alongside Farnworth, Kearsley and Breightmet, and it sits roughly three miles from the middle of Bolton, so it is well inside the area we cover.
By screening the sightline rather than the whole garden.
A tall panel across one corner, or planting placed where you actually sit, blocks what you want blocked without turning a small space into a box.
Where a boundary is being raised, height limits and the neighbour's side are both worth checking first.
Earlier than most people think, because the design and quote stage happens before any date is held, and groundwork is the part weather interferes with.
