Garden landscaping, patios, decking, fencing and lawns for Aspull — back yards on the old colliery rows, long plots behind the postwar semis, every job quoted after a proper look at the ground.
Tell us a little about your garden and we'll come straight back to you on WhatsApp or by email.
Aspull is in the Wigan borough, about six miles west of Bolton town centre, with the A5106 Wigan Road through it and the B5238 running off towards Haigh. Blackrod and the Bolton boundary are on one side of it, Wigan, Whelley and Red Rock to the south-west on the other.
Much of Aspull is former colliery-village terraces and postwar semis, and those two kinds of house hand a landscaper two different jobs. On the terraced rows the question is how to reach the yard at all.
On the semis it is what to do with a long, narrow plot that has kept the same layout since the day it was set out.
On a terraced row the back is reached through a shared entry or through the house itself, and that single fact decides the method for the whole job: the size of the slabs, how the base material arrives, where the spoil ends up.
Everything comes in and goes out by barrow through an entry or a hallway. The narrowest point on that route is worth measuring before any material is chosen.
Taking up an old yard makes more spoil than people expect. Where a skip or bags can stand, and how far that is from the back door, shapes the working day.
Where the ginnel serves more than one house, other people still need to use it. Agreeing when materials land heads off most of the friction.
A lot of these yards are flagged or concreted end to end with nothing growing. Paving, artificial grass and raised beds are the usual answers, and all three start with what is under the old surface.
If the route runs through the hall, the house gets protected before the first barrow moves.
The postwar semis around Aspull give you the opposite of a terraced yard: space, and usually a gate down the side. What they rarely give you is a layout anybody chose.
A path down the middle, grass either side of it and a shed at the bottom is the pattern, and it has often been that way for decades.
Reworking one of those plots is mostly about breaking the length up so the garden is used all the way down rather than looked at from the back door.
The old concrete strip through the centre usually comes out, and what is under it decides how much of a dig that turns into.
Side access is the other thing that moves the price, because it is the difference between barrowing every load past the back door and bringing a machine in.
Complete redesigns and rebuilds for Aspull gardens — including the levelling and retaining work that sloping, ridge-top plots often need before anything else goes in.
High-quality patio areas built on proper foundations — well suited to Aspull's older stone cottages and its newer estate housing alike.
Raised decking that works with a sloping garden rather than against it, plus closeboard or panel fencing built to last.
Low-maintenance lawns installed on a proper sub-base with good drainage — useful on Aspull's higher, more exposed plots.

Haigh and Standish are Aspull's neighbours on the Wigan-borough side, Blackrod sits just over the boundary into Bolton, and Wigan town, Whelley and Red Rock lie to the south-west down the A5106.
Our landscaping in Haigh page covers the ground immediately alongside, and patios and paving sets out how a paved area is built up from the base rather than laid on what is already there.
Yes, but it has to be planned around that route rather than in spite of it.
Carrying through a house limits the weight and size of what can be handled, which can point towards smaller-format paving, and it means the house gets protected first.
It is the main thing we look at when we come out.
We do.
The areas we list run from Bolton out through Blackrod and Westhoughton into Aspull, Haigh, Standish and Hindley, so the borough line makes no difference to whether we come and look at a garden.
If you are not sure which side of it you are on, just ask.
Usually break the length into two or three parts.
That tends to mean a proper seating area near the house, a defined path rather than a strip of concrete, and something worth walking to at the far end.
What is underneath the old path decides how much digging is involved.
A yard on a terraced row is a proper piece of work in its own right — the dig, the base and the access all still apply, and the finished space is usually the only outdoor space the house has.
